Irena will be playing two contrasting sonatas: Beethoven’s intricate and charming Pastorale Sonata, to be followed by Prokofiev’s wild and dramatic Sonata no.6 in a programme full of relentless energy, breathtaking beauty, technical virtuosity and musical fireworks.
The concert will begin promptly at 1pm. Admission is free, but those who are able to afford it are asked to make a donation. The suggested amount is £5.
As usual the St John's café will be open from noon, staffed by volunteers from The Green Backyard, and a selection of hot drinks and home made cakes, scones etc will be on sale with all profits going to support the work of The Green Backyard.
British pianist Irena Radic is studying with Niel Immelman at the Royal College of Music, London.
She has won many awards including the Teresa Carreño Piano Prize 2014, which led to a well-received recital at the Bolivar Hall. She performs regularly as both a soloist and chamber musician in a diverse range of repertoire – most recently with Martin James Bartlett in Mozart’s Sonata in D for 2 Pianos.
Since 2015, she has performed in a duo with guitarist Jonatan Bougt, with whom she is creating new arrangements of works by Ravel and Shostakovich.
The last year has also featured performances of Franck’s Sonata for Violin and Piano, and works for Piano and Percussion including a world premiere and Bartok’s Sonata for 2 Pianos and Percussion.
