9th October: Lunchtime Concert – Winterreise (Part 1)
In this lunchtime concert Bass-Baritone Robert-John Edwards and pianist Gina Kruger will perform the first part of Schubert’s Winterreise (Winter Journey) D911.
When: Tuesday 9th October

This cycle of 24 songs was composed and published in two separate halves during 1827, and today’s concert is a performance of the first twelve songs as published in January 1828. Winterreise is the second of Schubert’s great song cycles based on the poems of Wilhelm Müller, following on from Die Schöne Müllerin, which Jonathan Hanley performed in St John’s earlier in the year.
Robert-John Edwards will be returning to St John’s on 9th November, for an evening concert entitled “A Ploughman’s Tale"
The concert will begin promptly at 1pm. Admission is free, but those who are able to afford it are asked to make a donation. The suggested amount is £5.
As usual the St John's café will be open from noon, staffed by volunteers from The Green Backyard, and a selection of hot drinks and home made cakes, scones etc. will be on sale with all profits going to support the work of The Green Backyard.
