30th October: Lunchtime Jazz – Kate Williams & Derek Scurll Jazz Quartet
St John's kicks off a short season of jazz/folk lunchtime concerts with the Kate Williams & Derek Scurll Jazz Quartet, who’ll be bring a blend of music from the Great American Songbook, and Latin jazz classics on voice and vibraphone.

Kate Williams studied classical singing at the Guildhall, and then ventured into work as a jazz vocalist alongside a successful teaching and therapy career. Derek Scurll studied music at Selwyn College,Cambridge and is now an in-demand orchestral percussionist and jazz drummer. His vibraphone playing is at the heart of this new project. Kate and Derek are joined by Fenland-based pianist Ivan Garford and Jose Canha on double bass.
The concert will begin promptly at 1pm. Admission is free, but those who are able to afford it are asked to make a donation. The suggested amount is £5.
As usual the St John's café will be open from noon, staffed by volunteers from The Green Backyard, and a selection of hot drinks and home made cakes, scones etc will be on sale with all profits going to support the work of The Green Backyard.
