Get involved in this years Christmas Starts With Christ Campaign!Christmas Starts group 2015

51% of people say the birth of Jesus Is IRRELEVANT to their Christmas - but people in Peterborough will be in no doubt that Christmas Starts with Christ thanks to the local Churches getting together to cover the city in banners!

This is the 5th year that Peterborough has been involved in this campaign and each year the number of churches taking part has grown!

Last year saw over 20 banners displayed around the city and as far out as Crowland, as well as 4 lamp post banners on Bourges Boulevard.     This year the team are hoping that even more churches will take part and that funding can be raised to enable more lamp post banners so that the people of Peterborough will be in no doubt about the real reason for the season.

The price of banners has been held again this year and they can be obtained for just £42 + VAT and these can be ordered by contacting Rev. Ron Watkinson by email: revronkingdomyouth@btinternet.com or telephone 01733 314117.

To donate to the project please again speak to Ron, with cheques made payable to HOPE4PETERBOROUGH.

Steven Pettican is again co-ordinating Peterboroughs response and as in previous years the team have found it prudent and encouraging to come together and bless this project in prayer.  This will take place on the grass outside the front of the Cathedral on Thursday 29th November at 12.30pm.  If you are unable to come please do send someone else who can represent your church community.

Below are a few more of the frightening statistics that this campaign is hoping to change!

  • Only 10% of adults say the most important thing about Christmas is "religious meaning"
  • Only 12% of adults know the full nativity story, dropping to just 7% of 18-24's
  • 36% of children aged 5 - 7 don't know whose birthday we celebrate on December 25th
  • 72% of people do not plan to attend a carol service in church.
