Peterborough FoodCycle - could you help?

Food Cycle
FoodCycle is a charity based in London, but they have 40 projects around England, including 6 in East Anglia - 1 of which is in Peterborough.

Their volunteers take food from supermarkets and local retailers, take it back to kitchens and cook it into healthy three-course meals for the local community.  They work with a number of service user groups from older people, low-income families and individuals, the homeless, refugee and asylum seekers. Their meals can be found in schools, churches, synagogues, community centres, and more.

FoodCycle Objectives:

  • Reducing food poverty
  • Reducing food waste
  • Reducing isolation

Building a sense of community (overarching objective) - in Peterborough they run a weekly meal every Monday at Park Road Baptist Church which regularly attracts approx. 80 people.  They have a variety of roles that they are looking to recruit to including Food Pick up (collecting the donated food), Cooking (making it into a scrumptious meal) and Hosting (setting out tables and serving guests).

FoodCycle Peterborough  - Food Pickup Team – Mondays 8:30-9:30am – Jump in the car and help FoodCycle to rescue lots of tasty food from the bin.  Join them to take this food to your local project, where their cooking volunteers will transform it into a delicious, 3-course meal for the community.  All volunteers must be over the age of 18.  Please click here for more information.

FoodCycle Peterborough - Cooking Team – Mondays 9:30-13:00 - Roll your sleeves up, sport a fetching hairnet and join the kitchen team to produce a three-course vegetarian meal using surplus food.  You’ll be peeling, chopping, frying, mixing, boiling, serving and washing up.  But most of all, you’ll have a lot of fun. You don’t need to have any previous cooking experience, you just need to get stuck in!  All volunteers must be over the age of 18. Please click here for more information.

FoodCycle Peterborough - Hosting Team – Mondays 11:30-14:30 - As a Hosting Volunteer, you’ll support the team in creating a warm, welcoming environment for our guests.  You’ll serve food, share a meal with our guests, encourage conversation and clean up after the meal. All volunteers must be over the age of 18. Please click here for more information.
